Eike Christiansen comes from Risum-Lindholm in North Friesland. She is a vet, mother and part of the Frisian minority. In this interview, she talks about what it means to feel firmly rooted, why language creates identity and why she is proud to be Frisian - without it being about pride
Even back then, she realized how little known Frisian is in many places. When you hear „North Frisia“, you often think of East Frisia or the North Sea islands. This makes it all the more surprising when Eike tells people that Frisian is her mother tongue. Such reactions make her realize again and again how special it is to be part of a minority - and how important visibility remains.
